37% rural youth sans Internet access: Study
Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious ‘Make in India’ campaign will fail if the government does not amend the existing child labour law of the country.
Speaking exclusively to The Statesman, Satyarthi said that the government should formulate a new anti-child labour law that is in tandem with the international standards.
“I have written to the Prime Minister stating his visions like ‘Skill India’, ‘Digital India’, and ‘Clean India’ will fail with the existing child labour laws in place. I have even pointed out that the proposed amendments to child labour law that is slated to be tabled in the Parliament is vague and weak. At a time when India is hoping to bring in foreign investments, the process will fail as it is entirely in opposition with the existing international child labour norms,” the Nobel Peace Prize winner of 2014 said.
