Cyber cops shoot off missive to industry bodies

The recent case of the email account of an e-commerce major’s CEO being hacked is not a stray one. Increasing cases of email spoofing targeting industries have the CID’s cyber crime department concerned.

Over the past few months, 3-5 cases of money being lost to spoofers have come to light. While four were reported in January, February saw three such cases, cyber crime police officials said.

Last week, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) sleuths met officials of the commerce department to collect email IDs of industry association members registered with the department. The CID later dashed off an email to the associations.
