MP government may be going great guns to promote female welfare schemes like Ladli Laxmi and Beti Bachao. But when it comes to access to digital technology, women in the state are far behind their male counterparts with only 20% and 12% rural women using mobile phones and Internet, respectively.
Technology is still not only an urban phenomenon with huge rural-urban divide, but a significant gender divide as well. Only 61% rural women are mobile phone users while their number decreases to a lowly 3% when it comes to movie internet usage. Besides, barely 20% women in villages own a mobile phone while their urban counterparts are slightly better off at 39%. Among rural women, most digitally challenged and backward are those belonging to ST section. While 59% rural ST women have mobile phones, 7% women have a TV at home and just 3% use mobile internet. These are among worst stats compared to others social sections.
