37% rural youth sans Internet access: Study
As a sequel to the Supreme Court quashing Section 66-A of the Information Technology (IT) Act as unconstitutional, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has asked the government to explore new restraints on the netizens’ freedom to comment in the social media for the sake of ‘decency and public order’.
Instead of taking a public stand, it has quietly asked the government not to allow absolute freedom on the Internet, pointing out that a reasonable restraint was necessary to prevent the people resorting to abuses and vulgarity. It noted that all kinds of attacks are being mounted on Prime Minister Narendra Modi as if the Supreme Court verdict has given a freedom to abuse anybody.
