37% rural youth sans Internet access: Study
KOLKATA: New Town may turn into a Wi-Fi zone by the end of the year. With plans scheduled to be set in motion from June, an investment of Rs 400 crore is likely to be pumped in to provide basic internet services in New Town.
According to sources, while the state is likely to invest the initial amount for the network backbone, the rest will flow in from private firms.
The service will primarily cover the main arterial road in New Town. In each phase, areas falling within 500m on both sides will benefit. Users will get free basic internet – access to social networking sites, surfing, app download and operations.
